Manchester
Astronomical Society: Founded originally as the North Western Branch of the British
Astronomical Association in 1892, the Manchester Astronomical Society,
following its change of name and emphasis as a local society in 1903, can
justifiably claim to have the longest continuous history of any provincial
astronomical society in England.

Cleveland
and Darlington Astronomical Society: Includes the observatory dome near
Stockton-on-Tees.
A joint project between Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and the Cleveland
and Darlington Astronomical Society, the observatory was opened on Feb. 9th.,
1994 by the 14th. Astronomer Royal Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale, FRS.
